Controversial relationship coach Blessing Okoro, widely known as Blessing CEO, has shared her thoughts on why modern marriages are increasingly falling apart, pointing to social media and shifting gender dynamics as key factors.
In an interview with Instablog TV, the self-acclaimed therapist argued that traditional systems of community support that once helped couples resolve issues are no longer effective in today’s fast-paced, digitally-driven society.
She expressed concern that many women, having gained financial independence and exposure, now find it difficult to maintain harmony in their relationships.
“In our generation, because I am working and earning money, even if I am quarreling with my husband, what do I need to go to my husband for? Once a woman becomes independent, they begin to rub shoulders with men,” she said.
Blessing CEO explained that while women’s success is not inherently a problem, the attitude that sometimes accompanies it can pose challenges in marriage. According to her, many men are not threatened by their wives’ achievements but by the shift in gender roles that often comes with it.
“A lot of people say that whenever a woman becomes successful the man becomes insecure. The truth is that no man is intimidated by your success, they are only afraid of the masculinity that comes with success,” she stated.
She emphasized the importance of women remaining “soft” and embracing their femininity, regardless of how successful they become, to maintain marital peace.
“So women should always remember to be soft, no matter how much you have, because once you start to drag shoulders with your husband, he begins to cheat and look for a woman that is softer or he leaves the marriage,” Blessing added.
Her comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some agreeing with her perspective while others accused her of reinforcing outdated gender stereotypes.
