Popular Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, widely known as AY, has spoken out in support of music legend 2Baba following the singer’s public apology over controversial comments made during a podcast appearance.

Information Nigeria had previously reported that in a recent episode of Nedu’s podcast, 2Baba had claimed that most men are not naturally wired to stay sexually committed to one woman. He added that while a man can love a woman deeply, he may still struggle with being sexually exclusive.

Facing backlash, 2Baba later shared a video on Instagram where he admitted, “I fucked up,” and issued an emotional apology to his wife, Natasha — whom he called “the love of my life” — as well as to his fans and children. “That’s not who I am,” he said.

In response, AY took to his Instagram and Twitter pages on Wednesday to defend the singer, calling out the harsh judgments being passed and stressing the need for compassion.

“It’s always easy to cast the first stone at the supposed offender. No one pauses to ask him the most human question: ‘Are you okay?’ And when they do, it’s rarely without an agenda. No one really cares,” he wrote.

He noted that 2Baba wasn’t looking for sympathy but was trying to own up to his mistakes:

“I just saw a man under duress taking accountability for his actions. Not because he’s perfect, but because he’s human. As men, we’re raised to suffer in silence. Whether right or wrong, we’re told to ‘man up.’”

AY further stressed how society often punishes men for showing vulnerability:

“Even when we finally speak, it rarely ends well. We’re blamed. Misunderstood. Dismissed. Our vulnerability doesn’t protect us. It exposes us. Na who them catch na him be thief.”

He concluded by criticizing misplaced societal priorities, saying:

“The things that truly matter in society often go unnoticed. I believe the government should start awarding entertainers with special bonuses for consistently helping to shift Nigerians’ focus away from issues that don’t contribute to their growth. Make una continue to pay attention to people wey don personally hustle to settle themselves. Dey play!”
