Popular social media activist, VeryDarkMan, has broken his silence over a Nollywood biopic inspired by his life, slamming the project as false, unapproved, and poorly researched. In a candid Instagram video, he made it clear that while the gesture may seem flattering, the execution left him disappointed.
The film, titled Verydarkblackman, features veteran Nollywood actor Gentle Jack in the lead role. But VeryDarkMan said he was never contacted or involved in the production, calling the entire film a misrepresentation. “I watched it and cringed,” he said. “Gentle Jack is a legend, and if he had reached out, I’d have responded within minutes.”
According to him, the biopic distorted key details of his journey and relationships. One of the most painful inaccuracies, he said, was the portrayal of his associate, Kokopi. Contrary to the film’s narrative, Kokopi wasn’t homeless when they met. “We met the day someone gave me a car worth over ₦40 million. I offered him a ride, and that was the beginning of our friendship,” he clarified.
VeryDarkMan also addressed past allegations about his NGO’s finances. He applauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for thoroughly auditing his organization and finding no wrongdoing. “Over ₦300 million went through our account, and I didn’t touch a dime. That’s the truth.”
Despite his displeasure, he ruled out any legal action. “I don’t sue. But this film? It doesn’t tell my story,” he said firmly.
He urged the public to keep supporting his NGO’s borehole projects across Nigeria, noting that the need for clean water is still urgent. While he won’t stop the film’s circulation, he wants the world to know: “What they released is fiction not my reality.”
