Controversial street-pop singer Portable has called out social media activist VeryDarkMan over his recent remarks targeting Afrobeats heavyweights Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.

In a video shared Thursday on X, Portable stood in defence of the globally recognised artistes, following VeryDarkMan’s accusations that they flaunt luxury lifestyles while offering little support to everyday Nigerians amid rising economic hardship.

VeryDarkMan had earlier claimed on Instagram that the trio spent billions on luxury cars and questioned their real societal impact. He specifically called out Burna Boy, accusing him of abandoning activism after attaining fame and fortune.

In response, Portable dismissed the criticism, insisting the artistes had made meaningful contributions behind the scenes. Drawing from personal experience, he cited moments of generosity from the musicians.

“VeryDarkMan you’ve come again. Remember we begged for you to be freed. We don’t know what you did—maybe you were involved in money laundering or kidnapping—we don’t know. Be careful of whatever you say,” he warned.

Addressing the claims further, Portable added, “You said Wizkid, Burna Boy that gave me N20 million—you said they’re not helping people but buying cars. Buy anything you want to buy on time, enjoy your life. Even if these people carry N100 billion and share N100k to people, they’ll finish it and still request for more. Nigeria is not angry, it’s you (VeryDarkMan) that’s hungry.”

Taking a jab at the activist’s past and perceived hypocrisy, Portable continued, “You were drinking pure water before, didn’t you buy Benz? The money Don Jazzy gave you—the audio money—where’s it? What did you do with it? How many schools have you built and how many houses? How many imam have you sent to Mecca? Now you’re talking about pastors.”

The online feud has stirred debate across social media, reigniting conversations around celebrity influence, accountability, and the line between criticism and clout-chasing.
