Nigerian pastor Ukpa Light has voiced strong support for Salvation Ministries’ founder, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, while rebuking social commentator VeryDarkMan over what he termed as baseless attacks on respected spiritual figures.
In a sermon laced with emotion, Ukpa challenged the activist’s relevance and questioned his societal impact, arguing that he lacks the credibility to criticise those who have guided countless lives through faith and teaching.
“One person calls himself a VeryDarkMan that has no record, has done nothing significant in society,” he stated. “He comes and tells me that David Ibiyeomie is not a man of God because he has a phone and ring light to talk.”
Recalling his own journey, Ukpa spoke of how books authored by leading pastors like Bishop David Ibiyeomie and Bishop David Abioye helped him through a troubled period.
“In less than four hours of reading Bishop Ibiyeomie’s book, I received life. Over ten years ago, his words were like fire in my bones,” he shared. “I also read ‘Understanding Divine Direction’ by Bishop Abioye—less than a thousand naira—and my life took a new direction.”
He questioned the influence VeryDarkMan claims to have, urging the public to reflect on the activist’s actual contribution to personal growth or community upliftment.
“You are talking to fathers and say we should be quiet?” he asked. “These men are fathers in the faith. You don’t run your mouth against them and expect silence.”
The pastor also took issue with the activist’s blend of advocacy and controversial online behaviour, suggesting that it undermines his moral stance.
“Somebody that talks about government today, and tomorrow is posting himself holding the bum bum of a lady. And as a Christian you follow him?” he queried. “The devil isn’t stupid—he mixes truth with lies to pollute your spirit.”
Ukpa Light concluded with a call for spiritual awareness, cautioning believers not to fall for deceptive narratives masked in partial truth.
“The devil is over 2,000 years old; he came for Jesus, so don’t be ignorant of his devices,” he warned. “God is coming for a perfect church without spot or wrinkle.”
His statements emerge amid ongoing online debates over the role of public figures in shaping opinions on religion, morality, and governance.
