Popular Nigerian music video director, TG Omori, has shared a candid revelation about his journey in the entertainment industry. Despite being a household name and the creative brain behind many top-charting music videos, Omori revealed that he only began making a real profit from directing in 2023.
During a recent online chat with fans, the filmmaker opened up about the financial hurdles he faced in his career. “I only started making profits in 2023.
Every time I’m losing money from pick-up shoots or something! Budget is never enough, in fact I was in bad production debt for 5 years. Just had to live with it, I was paying up and taking more to cover up,” Omori disclosed.
He explained that though he was constantly working, most of his projects left him financially drained. It took years of leveraging his brand and personality before he could clear the heavy debt he accumulated. “I was only able to pay it off through money my brand and personality was fetching me.
It’s a tough life for creatives. Hug a creative beside you today,” he added, highlighting the financial challenges most creatives silently endure.
Interestingly, despite his previous financial woes, TG Omori reportedly received a staggering N100 million from superstar Davido to direct the video for his hit song Jowo. Omori confirmed this payment via social media last year, showcasing how far he has come.
Today, TG Omori is not only known for his unique directing style but also as an example of perseverance in an industry that often rewards fame before finance. His story serves as a motivation for upcoming creatives striving for success despite limited resources.
