Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has responded to allegations that she subtly mocked her colleague, Biola Bayo, following the latter’s recent revelation about her failed marriage.
Just last week, Biola Bayo shared with the public that she and her husband had quietly separated in April 2024. She explained that the two have chosen to peacefully co-parent their son. In a heartfelt message, Biola apologized to anyone who felt let down by the news and expressed her deep sorrow over the situation.
“I sincerely apologise,” she wrote, “I wished my marriage worked, but it’s best to stay alive to tell the story.” She further urged her followers to keep them in their prayers, noting, “The irony is that I make others happy, yet my pillow has been soaked in tears almost every night for the past 14 months.”
Shortly after Biola’s announcement, Laide posted a video of herself dancing and twerking, captioned: “All of us will eat breakfast. Asiko lo ma ya to. Good morning, people.” In Nigerian slang, "eating breakfast" often refers to experiencing heartbreak. The timing of the post led many to speculate that Laide was making a veiled dig at Biola.
Facing backlash, Laide addressed the rumors, stating unequivocally that she would never mock her colleague. “Let us all be guarded, please. It’s still June 5th here in America—California, to be precise. I can never shade my own sister @biolabayo. My prayers are with you,” she wrote. She explained that she had been preoccupied celebrating her daughter’s graduation and had no idea about Biola’s marital announcement. “I didn’t get any updates. I was busy with @simlineboss’ graduation. Trolls are evil.”
In a separate reaction, controversial singer Portable also commented on Biola’s situation. He criticized her for interviewing other people’s wives while not maintaining her own marriage, adding that “life is full of drama.”
