Nigerian music star Victony has candidly shared his struggle with pre-performance anxiety, revealing that alcohol has always played a role in his stage appearances until now.
During a recent conversation on Behind The Prestige, the "Soweto" crooner, whose real name is Anthony Ebuka Victor, disclosed that he had never performed without taking alcohol first. According to him, the substance served as a crutch to help him cope with the pressure of live performances and crowds.
However, the fast-rising Afrobeats sensation said he is making a deliberate effort to perform sober during his ongoing "Stubborn" tour. He explained that he wants to build a more genuine bond with his audience and see his fans “clearly,” without the haze of intoxication.
“I want this tour to be special,” Victony said. “It’s a challenge I’ve set for myself to go on stage without any alcohol in my system. I want to feel the connection with my fans in the purest form.”
The revelation offers a rare glimpse into the psychological toll fame can take on young artists, especially those still navigating the demands of constant travel, stage expectations, and personal growth. For Victony, this tour isn't just about music; it’s about evolution shedding old habits and embracing new experiences with a clearer mind and a fuller heart.
Fans have praised the singer for his honesty and vulnerability, applauding his decision to perform with a new mindset. Many see it as a bold step that could inspire others in the industry to prioritize mental wellness over coping mechanisms.
