Veteran Nollywood actor, Patrick Doyle, has addressed public perception regarding his fame in comparison to his ex-wife, Ireti Doyle, claiming he remains the more popular figure and insisting that her continued use of his surname is proof of his lasting relevance.
In a recent sit-down with The Muvmnt Studio, Doyle dismissed claims that Ireti has surpassed him in terms of popularity. According to the respected broadcaster and actor, his legacy began long before Ireti gained prominence in the film industry. He asserted that his reputation and achievements stand independently and are not tied to his former spouse.
“I’ve been in the spotlight since I was 16,” Doyle stated confidently. “I was already a name when she was still figuring out her path. Even now, I remain relevant in this industry.”
He pointedly questioned why Ireti still bears the Doyle surname post-divorce if she truly believed she had eclipsed his fame. “If you’re that big, why not drop the name?” he queried.
The actor also emphasized his long-standing contributions across media and entertainment, noting that his track record, including his time as a broadcaster, debater, and actor, cannot be diminished by public comparison or media narratives.
Doyle and Ireti confirmed their separation in 2023, years after tying the knot following the loss of Doyle’s first wife to sickle cell complications. Despite the end of their marriage, both remain influential figures in Nollywood and beyond.
While the actor’s remarks have stirred fresh reactions online, they highlight the often intense scrutiny public figures face after high-profile separations especially when both parties command their own fan base.
