Renowned Nigerian musician Flavour, whose real name is Chinedu Okoli, has reflected on a turning point early in his music journey — a moment when the legendary duo P-Square unknowingly motivated him to evolve from being a live performer to a full-fledged recording artist.

Appearing on the In My Opinion podcast, Flavour shared that during one of his early performances, everything changed when Peter and Paul Okoye, better known as P-Square, arrived at the venue. He was promptly asked to vacate the stage, making way for the duo’s electrifying set.

He recounted how the crowd erupted as P-Square launched into their hit song Temptation, with Paul’s voice immediately igniting excitement among the audience. “The place was electrified,” Flavour said, visibly still moved by the memory. Despite his skills as a singer and instrumentalist, he admitted feeling a deep sense of inadequacy in that moment.

“I realised I was just a music man,” he said, reflecting on how that experience opened his eyes to the importance of creating original music and crafting a distinct sound.

According to Flavour, P-Square’s performance made him rethink his path. Their ability to deliver both energy and originality made a lasting impression, pushing him to develop his own artistic identity and take his craft to the next level.

That pivotal experience eventually led to his emergence as a recording artist, with hit songs like Ada Ada helping him rise to national prominence and cementing his place in the Nigerian music scene.

How PSquare inspired Flavour to become an artiste. 🤯 In an interview with the In My Opinion “IMO” podcast, Flavour recalls a time when Psquare came to perform in a beer parlour where he normalled played in, and how the performance moved him to transition from being a musician to a recording artiste. According to Flavour, PSquare had the crowd (especially the ladies) on lock performing their hit at the time “Temptation” and from that moment on, Flavour began asking himself how he could go from instrumentalist to artist. We’re glad Flavour made the leap! If you could choose between going to a PSquare or Flavour concert, which would you attend? @Flavour of Africa #music #afrobeats #flavournabania #psquare #afropop #highlife #highlifemusic #nigeria #igboamaka #tiktoknigeria
