The Delta State Police Command has issued a stern warning to women regarding the rising trend of indecent dressing in the state. According to the authorities, such conduct will no longer be tolerated and is now subject to penalties under the law.
In a public message aimed particularly at young women, the command emphasized that dressing in a revealing or inappropriate manner will attract sanctions, including a monetary fine or mandated community service.
Addressing the issue in a firm tone, the police stated:
> “As you no dey like wear clothe wey dey cover your body well, indecent dressing in Delta State is now punishable by either a fine of N50,000 or community service. If you like, no dress well.”
This development is part of the state’s broader effort to curb behaviors considered morally inappropriate and to reinforce public decency standards. The police did not specify what exactly constitutes "indecent dressing," but the move has already sparked public reactions across social media platforms, with many debating the definition and enforcement of the policy.
While some members of the public have praised the initiative as a step toward promoting cultural values and discipline, others have raised concerns about potential abuse of the law and subjective interpretations of what qualifies as “indecent.”
The Delta Police Command, however, insists the measure is necessary to discourage public nudity and protect societal norms. Citizens, particularly women, are advised to dress modestly to avoid falling foul of the new regulation.
As enforcement begins, the command warns that anyone found violating the dress code will not be spared, stressing that the penalties are not merely symbolic but will be applied as stipulated.
