Award-winning filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has announced the arrival of his 2019 critically acclaimed film Mokalik on YouTube, making it accessible to a wider audience beginning today, June 27.
Sharing the news on social media, Afolayan revealed that the inspiration for the film came from a personal experience. “The idea for Mokalik was born when I visited a mechanic workshop to fix my vintage car, and found a story waiting under the hood,” he wrote.
Mokalik, which first premiered in 2019, is a coming-of-age drama that explores the world of apprenticeships, life-altering decisions, and second chances through the eyes of an 11-year-old boy. Set against the backdrop of a bustling mechanic village, the film captures the nuances of working-class life and the importance of skill acquisition in Nigerian society.
The cast boasts a mix of Nollywood favourites and rising stars, including Simisola Kosoko (@symplysimi) in her acting debut, Tobi Bakre, Tooni Afolayan, Adedimeji Lateef, Okunnu, Femi Adebayo, Faithia Williams, Damilola Ogunsi, Charles Okocha, Ayo Adesanya, Ojopagogo, and Samuel Ajirebi.
Written by Tunde Babalola and produced under Afolayan’s Golden Effects and KAP Motion Pictures, the film is now available for streaming via KAP Stream on YouTube.
The film’s release comes as part of Afolayan’s continued effort to make culturally rich and educational Nigerian stories available to a global audience.
