Grammy-winning Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy has addressed the wave of criticism that followed his proposed free concert in Burkina Faso, pushing back strongly against those questioning his intentions.
The backlash came after reports surfaced online alleging that the President of Burkina Faso had rejected Burna Boy’s offer. Social media users quickly mocked the proposal, sparking a storm of speculation and ridicule.
In response, Burna Boy took to his Instagram Story to defend himself, insisting that his gesture was rooted in principle, not personal gain or political ambition. He expressed surprise at the hostility his initiative received.
“I have nothing to gain from anybody. I don’t owe anyone anything, but that never stopped me from doing the great work I do,” he wrote. Emphasizing his values, he added, “My integrity is unquestionable. Therefore burn in hell if you said anything negative.”
The outspoken artist made it clear that his philanthropic efforts are not driven by public opinion, and he remains unfazed by those attempting to discredit his work.
