Veteran Nollywood actress Tina Mba has advised her colleagues in the entertainment industry never to abandon their acting careers for the sake of marriage. The respected actress shared this in a recent episode of Lights, Camera – It’s My Turn, where she offered heartfelt advice on navigating relationships while maintaining a professional career in Nollywood.
Tina, a mother of two, emphasized the importance of self-awareness and open communication before committing to marriage. She recounted how her own partner accepted her as an actor without demanding she give up her passion.
“He met you an actor, he married you an actor,” she said. “There was no issue of you leaving this job because of his insecurity or because of raising children. Then you got married thinking you were going to fly, and the man turns around to say, ‘No, you’re going to sit.’”
Mba warned that early red flags should never be ignored. According to her, partners who intend to stifle one's growth often show signs from the beginning. She encouraged actors to have upfront conversations about career expectations before marriage and, if necessary, secure commitments in writing.
“Watch him, watch her. You need to have a discussion. If need be, sign an undertaking that you would not make me leave my career. Because did he leave his job?” she asked pointedly.
The actress concluded by reaffirming that while marriage is valuable, it should not come at the cost of self-fulfillment.
“Just be true to yourself. Don’t go for the dazzles—be an antique babe like me,” she said with a smile.
Her powerful message resonated with many, especially in an industry where balancing career and personal life remains a major challenge.
