At a recent Global Workers’ Conference, Pastor William Kumuyi, founder and leader of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, opened up about the tragic loss of his first wife, Abiodun Kumuyi, who passed away in April 2009 at the age of 57.
Kumuyi, who was married to Abiodun for 28 years, shared that he was away for a church program when she died. He reflected emotionally on the circumstances surrounding her death, saying it occurred at a time when he had unknowingly left himself spiritually vulnerable.
While he didn’t go into graphic detail, Kumuyi suggested that the attack on his wife’s health had spiritual undertones, noting that the enemy struck when he was absent and unprepared.
Despite the pain, the renowned preacher said he did not allow grief to paralyze his mission. Instead, he turned the tragedy into a driving force for his global evangelistic efforts. Kumuyi revealed that, since his wife’s passing, he has channeled his pain into purpose traveling extensively across Nigeria, Africa, and even other continents to preach the gospel.
He described his ministry’s post-tragedy expansion as a “revenge mission” against the devil, vowing never to relent in his commitment to spreading the message of faith and salvation.
Kumuyi’s wife, Abiodun, was a foundational part of his early ministry, supporting his work throughout their marriage. He remarried in 2010, a year after her death.
His candid account of loss and resilience has drawn sympathy and admiration from many, particularly within the Christian community. It also highlights the personal struggles even prominent religious leaders face and how they often turn their pain into renewed spiritual commitment.
