Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has shared details of the final rites for his late parents, Chief Nwabali Godspower Onyekamu and Mrs. Grace Nwabali (née Mmai), describing their death as an unimaginable heartbreak.
In a deeply emotional Instagram post on Friday, Nwabali reflected on the pain of losing both parents, saying he never imagined facing such a loss at this point in his life. “This is the hardest thing I’ve had to do—saying goodbye to my mom and dad. The pain is beyond words, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone,” he wrote.
The funeral proceedings will stretch over three days, starting on Thursday, June 5, 2025. A Service of Songs will be held at 5 p.m. at the family home on Osafu Lane in Okwuzi Egbema, Rivers State.
On Friday, June 6, the body of Mrs. Grace Nwabali will be taken from Gbegbe Hospital Mortuary in Omoku to her father’s compound before being moved to her late husband’s home, where she will lie in state from 11 a.m.
The burial for both parents will take place the following day, Saturday, June 7. Chief Godspower Nwabali’s remains will depart the mortuary at 9 a.m. and be taken first to his maternal home. At 10 a.m., the Okwuzi Council of Chiefs will formally receive the body. It will then proceed to his residence by 11 a.m., where funeral rites will begin by noon.
After the burial, a reception will be held at CPS Okwuzi Egbema to honor the lives they lived.
Chief Nwabali was 72 years old at the time of his passing, while his wife, Grace, was 63.
The family has extended their appreciation to everyone who has shown support during this difficult period and encouraged friends and well-wishers to join them in paying tribute on June 6 and 7.
