Nigerian artist Adekunle Temitope, widely known by his stage name Small Doctor, has voiced his concerns about the declining visibility of Fuji music—a genre with deep roots in Yoruba culture.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Small Doctor shared his thoughts, stating:
“I stand to be corrected. I feel Fuji music is dying and something needs to be fixed urgently… After the blowing up of Remi Aluko and the likes in 2001 or 2002, I haven’t heard nor seen another Fuji artist blow up.”
His remarks have ignited conversations among music lovers and industry stakeholders about the genre’s current status and the need for efforts to rejuvenate its standing in the contemporary Nigerian music landscape.
