Popular Nigerian rapper and activist, Ruggedman, is reportedly being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Lagos. The development, which has sparked concern among fans and colleagues, was made public by human rights advocate, Harrison Gwamnishu.
According to Gwamnishu, the arrest was allegedly ordered by a Deputy Commissioner of Police over unresolved matters linked to the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN). He claims the circumstances surrounding the rapper’s detention remain unclear and that no comprehensive investigation has been carried out prior to the arrest.
Taking to social media to bring public attention to the matter, Gwamnishu alleged that Ruggedman and others in custody are being treated unfairly. He described the situation as a case of abuse of power and called on Nigerians to speak up.
“Ruggedman is being detained at SCID Panti on the instruction of a DCP in connection with issues related to PMAN,” Gwamnishu wrote. “There has been no proper investigation, yet he and some others are reportedly being mistreated. It’s important the public knows what’s going on.”
The incident has stirred conversations online, with many demanding transparency and fair treatment. While details of the PMAN-related dispute remain sketchy, supporters have begun rallying on social media, calling for Ruggedman’s release and a thorough probe into the matter.
As of the time of this report, police authorities have yet to issue an official statement addressing the allegations or clarifying the circumstances of the musician’s detention.
Ruggedman, known for using his platform to speak out against injustice and corruption, has been a prominent figure in Nigeria’s entertainment and activist spaces for over two decades.
