Veteran actress Rita Edochie has taken a firm stand against what she describes as the alarming trend of glorifying child abuse and immoral relationships involving minors on social media platforms in Nigeria.
In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, Edochie criticized how social media has increasingly become a platform that seemingly supports or defends inappropriate conduct with underage individuals. She called out the excuses given for such behavior, labeling them as dangerous and unacceptable.
The actress expressed deep frustration with the way some online communities hype and justify actions that amount to child abuse and exploitation. She questioned when such immoral acts, including affairs with minors under 18, became normalized or even celebrated.
“Immorality is at its peak,” she lamented, stressing that child abuse should never be tolerated or glamorized. Edochie warned against the harmful influence of social media in amplifying these destructive messages under the guise of publicity or entertainment.
Beyond condemning the actions themselves, she also raised concerns about the broader cultural environment where families expose young people to music and media content that promotes immoral behavior.
She urged Nigerians to reconsider their engagement with such content, highlighting the risks it poses to the moral upbringing of children.
Edochie called for urgent societal introspection and accountability, insisting that fame or success should never come at the cost of ethical values and the wellbeing of the younger generation.
Her message serves as a powerful reminder that protecting children and upholding moral standards must remain a priority in a world increasingly influenced by social media trends.
