Nollywood actress Biodun Okeowo has responded fiercely to a social media user who criticised her and other celebrities for bringing veteran actress Jumoke George’s personal struggles to public attention.
Recently, Jumoke George revealed during a heartfelt interview with fellow actress Biola Bayo that she has been homeless for five to six years and has been taking refuge in a church. She also disclosed her health challenges, stating that she has been frequently hospitalized since January 2nd and is now in debt. The veteran actress added that she needs to undergo critical brain and heart tests but lacks the funds to do so.
Following the revelations, Biodun Okeowo shared the interview on her platform to garner support for Jumoke. However, this act drew criticism from a troll who accused Nollywood stars of being miserly and questioned why they would resort to public fundraising instead of helping quietly. The critic pointed out that Biodun, who resides in the US and has a wealthy husband, could have offered personal support or coordinated private assistance.
The troll wrote:
"Y’all Nollywood actors and actresses are stingy. Why do you have to bring this woman to the public because she’s homeless? You dey America, you have a rich husband, you could easily tell your husband to help her or contact your colleagues to help the woman so you people can cover the shame but hell no, una must come and beg the public for money to help your colleagues, but if to say nah Aso ebi 500k, una wan buy, una dey always see money for that."
Biodun didn’t hold back in her response, slamming the critic for lacking empathy and understanding.
"Some unfortunate people on this app think like roaches!" she began.
"This is why some of you will never understand empathy: Your heart is locked in bitterness. @possiblecashie and the senseless ones who liked your comment and concurred, you all clearly lack sense and empathy.
You’re busy counting people’s husbands and outfits instead of counting your own missing blessings.
If helping a senior colleague publicly can save a life, let it be!
When you become a human being with sense, you’ll understand that some issues are bigger than your pocket mentality."
She concluded by highlighting that seeking public support can often bring quicker results.
"If you had half a brain, you’d know that going public is sometimes the fastest way to get urgent help.
But no, you’d rather stay bitter and type essays about people’s personal lives while doing zero for your own community.
Focus on your life, and stop analysing what’s above your emotional pay grades.
