Controversial Nigerian artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has reignited his feud with the Headies Awards following the conclusion of its 17th edition, held last week at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos.
Despite the star-studded event attracting numerous celebrities, Portable was noticeably absent from the list of winners. Taking to his Instagram story, the singer voiced his frustration, accusing the organisers of snubbing him once again.
“They no give us award, but God gives us grace. Now they’re deceiving you. They carry awards and give to people who don’t blow. We blow inside the hole (Konga); people know us. You dey mad ni,” he said in a fiery rant aimed at both the organisers and an unnamed fellow artiste.
He went on to claim that while others may have received recognition, true popularity and influence weren’t measured by trophies.
Social media users were quick to react:
- Sabitalk1 commented, “So na Headies dey make you get headache every year?”
- Mercicollett added, “He is only quiet when he is being chased by the police.”
- Iffglo questioned, “Wetin dem wan give u award for?”
- B.u_services quipped, “Shalipopi that was there collected handshake.”
- Ify1212 dismissed the rant, saying, “Which award he wan collect. Mtcheww?”
The artist’s history of outspoken comments and public feuds has made him a recurring topic of debate whenever award season rolls around.
