Nigerian businessman and philanthropist, Obi Cubana, recently shared a heartfelt and humorous reflection on the realities of growing up and stepping into adulthood. In a social media post that resonated with many, he joked about how his childhood dreams of adulthood turned out to be quite different from the reality he now faces.

He began his post with a lighthearted remark, saying, “Tempted to start this gist with ‘Dear Youth…’ but then again, we move!” accompanied by a couple of laughing emojis, setting a playful tone for the message that followed.

Obi Cubana reminisced about his younger years, revealing that as a child, he eagerly looked forward to becoming an adult, primarily because he believed it would spare him from the kinds of insults and challenges children often face. “When I was a kid, all I wanted was to grow up, be an adult to avoid insults…” he wrote.

However, now that he is fully immersed in adulthood, he acknowledges the stark contrast between his expectations and reality. With a touch of emotional honesty, he continued, “Today, adulthood is here… ife kalii.” The phrase, drawn from Igbo, loosely translates to “life is deep” or “life is tough,” expressing a sense of the weight and complexity that comes with grown-up responsibilities.

His candid post struck a chord with many followers, who echoed similar sentiments about the unexpected burdens of adult life.
