Notable Nigerians and African leaders have been honored as part of the 2025 edition of the “100 Most Notable Peace Icons in Africa,” a prestigious list recognizing individuals who have significantly contributed to peace, leadership, and development across the continent. The announcement was made during a press briefing held in Abuja.
Among those celebrated are prominent Nigerians such as Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles star, Grammy-winning singer Tems, and business magnates Tony Elumelu of Heirs Holdings and Femi Otedola.
Additionally, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, was also named on the list, highlighting her impactful role in global and African economic development.
The recognition extends beyond Nigeria, honoring figures like Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah, Tanzanian business leader Angel Josephat Natianota, and Moroccan changemakers Abdelhak Najib and Imane Kendili. Zimbabwe’s Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube and Munyakazi Sadate, CEO of Karame Rwanda Group, also made the list, reflecting the wide geographic representation of the honorees.
Kingsley Amafibe, the project director for the initiative, emphasized that the individuals selected have demonstrated resilience and unwavering dedication to advancing peace, promoting leadership, and encouraging economic growth across Africa.
He noted that the list highlights influential figures across various sectors from sports and finance to religion and the creative arts who continue to drive positive change on the continent.
Awardees will be celebrated at the upcoming 100 Most Notable Africans Leadership and Business Summit scheduled for July in Kigali, Rwanda.
The summit, themed “Leadership Frameworks for Governance, Business Growth, Investment Opportunities and Sustainable Development in Africa,” aims to foster high-level discussions and networking among policymakers, business leaders, and entrepreneurs, focused on unlocking Africa’s potential through collaborative governance and sustainable policies.
This recognition shines a spotlight on Africa’s brightest minds and leaders shaping the future of peace and prosperity.
