Nigerian music sensation Davido has opened up about the criticism he faced early in his career due to his privileged background, emphasizing that his love for music was unwavering.

In a recent podcast interview, Davido shared that his family’s wealth was initially unknown to the public, which allowed him to gain traction in the music industry without facing immediate backlash.

“People didn’t know my father was rich. It was too late — I already did three hit songs before they found out,” he said. “I just wanted to do music. I didn’t care if I had to become homeless. At that point, that was all I wanted to do. Nothing would stop me.”

The Unavailable hitmaker also spoke about the intense scrutiny that comes with being at the top of the game.

“Once you become the biggest in anything, you get criticised. It’s like an election — they love you when you’re running, but when you win, they start to hate you.”

Despite the challenges, Davido has continued to flourish, proving that true passion and determination can overcome even the harshest criticism.
