Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has confirmed that she was invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over her involvement in the grand wedding ceremonies of her daughter, Priscilla Ojo, and Tanzanian singer Juma Jux, held in April 2025.

The actress, who was abroad when the EFCC reached out, said she returned to Nigeria and honored the invitation on May 5. According to her statement shared on Instagram, EFCC officials questioned her about her career, businesses, and specifically the monetary activities at her daughter's wedding, where guests were seen spraying bundles of cash.

Iyabo explained that the anti-graft agency showed her videos from the event as part of the inquiry. She noted that she had previously believed only mutilating the Naira was illegal. However, EFCC officers informed her that spraying money Naira or foreign currency also violates financial regulations.

She expressed shock at the revelation, stating she had no prior knowledge that this widely-practiced celebration style was against the law. She was allowed to leave after the session, though her lawyer, O.I. Salami, remained on standby in case of further questioning.

Following the incident, Iyabo advised Nigerians to be mindful of how they display cash at public functions, urging a cultural rethink of money spraying customs.

Her candid explanation has sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some criticized EFCC for focusing on such matters amid the country’s economic struggles, others praised Iyabo’s maturity in handling the situation.

Iyabo’s latest film Labake Olododo continues to screen in Nigerian and UK cinemas and is set for a US debut on May 9. As debates around party customs grow, her experience highlights the legal risks tied to showy traditions.
