Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has revealed that if he hadn’t chosen music as a career, journalism would have been his alternative path.
In a recent interview with Atlanta’s 96.1 The Beat, Davido opened up about his love for communication, self-promotion, and information gathering. According to him, these passions point to a natural inclination toward the media industry.
“I like promo, I like conversations. A lot of people don’t know that I studied marketing apart from business management. I like to market myself, I love to talk. If I had a podcast, I’d talk for like three to four days,” he said with a laugh.
Davido also shared how his enthusiasm for media engagement sets him apart from many of his colleagues in the music industry, noting that he actively participates in promotional activities rather than relying solely on his fame.
“A lot of big artists don’t do press but I do because I can talk. But some people just don’t want to talk. When people meet me, I like to have conversations, I like to know things, I like information,” he said. “Even at home, I’m also researching. If I wasn’t doing music, I would definitely be in journalism.”
The singer further reflected on the importance of staying active and visible in the public eye, adding that his strong online presence is driven by hard work, not just popularity.
“People ask me why I have the most followers; it’s because I’m working,” he said. “I know how hard Beyoncé works, and she has all the money in the world.”
Davido’s remarks reveal not just his dedication to his craft but also an underlying curiosity and passion for storytelling, traits that make him a natural communicator beyond the music stage.
