Nollywood actress Regina Chukwu has shared the heartbreaking story of losing her husband in a deeply emotional interview with fellow actress Biola Bayo.

Speaking during the interview, Regina revealed that her husband passed away when their youngest child was just four months old. According to her, he had been battling a severe illness that not only drained their finances but ultimately led to his untimely death.

She recalled the harrowing moments they endured together during his illness, revealing how people referred to him as a "living corpse" due to his deteriorating condition. In a moment of despair, her husband made a chilling request—he asked her to plead with his mother to administer a mercy death through an injection to end his suffering.

“The night of our traditional wedding, he opened up to me,” Regina said. “He told me that all the money he had left, both in Nigeria and abroad, was just eleven thousand naira. That night, I cried—not just because of the money, but because the illness had consumed everything and was still with us.”

Regina went on to share details about her past, describing herself as a tough, no-nonsense person growing up. “No guy ever toasted me,” she said. “I was a virgin when I met my husband. He was the one who broke my virginity.”

The actress painted a vivid picture of their struggles. With finances tight, she couldn’t afford antenatal care, and after childbirth, she was back on her feet just 41 days later to return to work because her husband could no longer step out of the house. “He was already using a potty at home,” she said. “He couldn’t eat without immediately stooling. I was carrying a baby on my back, running around, while people looked at him and called him a living corpse.”

Eventually, the pain became too much for him. “He told me to beg his mother to let him go—to give him mercy death,” Regina recounted.

Following her husband’s death, Regina stepped away from the movie industry for nearly eight years. “I had to take a break for some years,” she said, “but now I am back.”
