Popular Nigerian actress and skit maker Lizzy Jay, also known by her real name Adeyela Adebola, has opened up about how comedy entered her life unexpectedly.
During a recent chat on Nollywood on Radio, the content creator revealed that comedy was never part of her life goals. In fact, her initial dreams were to become a musician and a medical doctor.
“Nothing was on my mind when I started making skits,” she explained. “What was on my mind was to do music, go to school, and become a medical doctor. Skit-making was just a way of killing boredom. I was home alone, had my phone, and needed to do something.”
Lizzy Jay made it clear that her foray into comedy wasn’t inspired by any trend or by watching other skit makers.
“It wasn’t like I planned or saw people doing skits and thought to copy. I was just bored, and I started making a skit,” she said.
Her journey took a significant turn when one of her early skits, shared on Facebook, went viral. The content caught the attention of multiple celebrities, including Nollywood icon Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, who reposted it on Instagram. That moment, Lizzy said, was when she realized there was more to her newfound hobby.
“I knew my skit was beyond just a boredom killer after one of my skits… was reposted by several celebrities, including Omotola Jalade,” she said. “At that point, I just thought I needed to continue what I started.”
From casual content creation, Lizzy Jay quickly evolved into one of Nigeria’s beloved online personalities. She has since transitioned into Nollywood, where she’s featured in movies such as Dear Affy, Dubara, and The Order of Things.
Her story is a testament to how passion, even when discovered accidentally, can lead to a successful and fulfilling career.
