An online uproar has erupted following the reported arrest of online activist VeryDarkMan, allegedly linked to a confrontation at a GTBank branch. The incident has triggered a wave of outrage, with supporters now calling for a mass boycott of the bank.
According to widespread social media posts, the controversial figure had visited the bank alongside his mother to raise concerns over unauthorized withdrawals from her account. However, the situation allegedly escalated, resulting in his detention—an action fans believe was influenced by the bank.
On X (formerly Twitter), user @WizardBJ4 ignited the backlash with a bold call to action:
“It’s time to cancel @gtbank. They’ve lost credibility by messing with the WRONG person, @thatverydarkman. This is a RED FLAG. I strongly advise y’all to close your accounts now. They are not RELIABLE and can’t PROTECT their customers. #FreeVDM.”
The post continued with further criticism, urging customers to divest from GTBank until more clarity is provided:
“PLEASE REMOVE YOUR MONEY FROM @gtbank until they free VDM or we know his whereabouts, show SIGNS of Serious Protests! Somebody cannot be moved from your Bank as BIG as VeryDarkMan @thatverydarkman @officialEFCC as how na? i don move d small savings I get there go my @palmpay_ng.”
The campaign, amplified under the hashtag #FreeVDM, has gained traction, with multiple users posting screenshots of transactions and pledging to close their GTBank accounts in protest.
GTBank has yet to publicly comment on the situation as pressure mounts from supporters demanding answers and VeryDarkMan’s release.
