The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 35 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud in Auchi, Edo State.
The arrests were made across various locations in the town, including Vigilante Street, Sabo Ibenafo Road, and the Back of Yak area.
The EFCC revealed in a statement shared on its official Twitter handle that the operation was carried out based on “credible intelligence” linking the suspects to internet fraud activities.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to combatting cybercrime, emphasizing that it is “resolute in our mandate to rid Nigeria of economic and financial crimes.”
During the arrests, the EFCC recovered several items from the suspects, including nine vehicles, eleven laptops, 46 mobile phones, and two smartwatches. These items are believed to have been used in executing the alleged fraudulent activities.
The suspects are currently in custody and are under investigation. The EFCC has indicated that they will face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.
