Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has addressed the confusion surrounding a viral report about a man bearing his name who was arrested in Ghana for alleged kidnapping and fraud.
A video circulating online showed the Ghana Police apprehending a 31-year-old suspect named Peter Okoye, accused of luring and defrauding two women—Anastasia Baidoo Arthur and Evelyn Konadu—by pretending to seek marriage.
The shared name led to widespread speculation on social media, with some users mistakenly linking the case to the musician.
Reacting to the incident, Mr P took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to clear the air and called on the Ghana Police Service to clarify the suspect’s identity.
“Abeg make una dey specifically dey specify which ‘PETER OKOYE’. I no be thief,” he wrote in pidgin English, firmly dissociating himself from the case.
According to the Ghanaian authorities, the two victims were safely rescued, and the suspect, along with others identified as Chinonso Okafor, Christian Emeka, and Paulinus Chidokwe, has been taken into custody for further investigation.
