The arrest of popular businessman and philanthropist, Emeka Okonkwo, better known as E-Money, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sparked a strong reaction across social media, with Cubana Chief Priest among the first celebrities to publicly show support.
E-Money was reportedly detained over allegations bordering on the abuse of the Nigerian currency and unlawful spraying of foreign currency at public functions an action believed to contravene the nation’s financial laws.
According to multiple sources, the socialite was taken into custody in Lagos and later flown to Abuja for further questioning.
While the EFCC is yet to make an official statement, the arrest has already drawn attention, particularly from E-Money’s close friends and associates. Cubana Chief Priest, a known ally and influencer, took to his Instagram to express deep concern over the arrest.
Without mincing words, he questioned the motivation behind E-Money’s arrest and hinted that it could be politically motivated or linked to a pattern of economic targeting.
In his reaction, the celebrity barman made bold declarations about the resilience of the Igbo community. He suggested that E-Money’s philanthropic work, especially in the Southeast, had positioned him as a figure of influence that some might want to silence. Chief Priest encouraged his friend to remain strong, assuring him that this challenge would only make him tougher.
Social media users have since joined the conversation, with many expressing fears over what they describe as selective enforcement of financial laws in Nigeria. Others hailed E-Money as a generous personality, always helping the less privileged.
As of now, fans await more details about the arrest, hoping the situation will be resolved fairly and swiftly.
