Nigerian actress and on-air personality, Lolo 1, has called for stricter oversight and regulation of social media, particularly TikTok, citing the rapid spread of explicit content and its influence on societal behavior.
While speaking recently on a television segment, Lolo expressed growing concern about the way platforms like TikTok are being used to share provocative content, which she believes is now blurring the lines of decency. She pointed out that while social media offers immense opportunities for creativity and self-expression, it has also become a space where explicit content is normalized, often with little accountability.
She emphasized that the ease with which anyone can access or publish inappropriate videos has created an environment where younger users, in particular, are exposed to content far beyond their age. She argued that this unfiltered exposure is subtly reshaping public values, making previously frowned-upon content appear normal or even trendy.
“It's not about censorship,” she explained. “It’s about creating digital boundaries that protect impressionable audiences without silencing creativity. We need policies that strike that balance.”
According to her, there should be clearer community guidelines and active monitoring to discourage the publication of sexually suggestive videos. She believes regulatory frameworks, either from the platforms themselves or through legal oversight, can ensure that harmful trends are kept in check.
Her stance has since stirred conversations online, with many agreeing that while TikTok remains a source of entertainment and influence, it also needs to shoulder more responsibility in how content is moderated.
Lolo’s comments reflect a broader concern among stakeholders who believe digital spaces must evolve to prioritize ethics and safety without undermining freedom of expression.
