Singer and producer Gabriel Oche Amanyi, better known as Terry G, has expressed displeasure over recent comparisons between him and controversial artist Portable.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Akpako Master made it clear that likening his legacy to Portable’s was a form of disrespect. He highlighted the longevity and relevance of his songs as a major difference between both artistes.
He tweeted: “Comparing me to Portable is disrespectful because I actually have music people listen to 10 years later.”
Terry G, who made waves in the late 2000s and early 2010s with street anthems like Free Madness and Akpako, is widely known for his chaotic, high-energy music style. His unique sound often fused Afrobeats with elements of Galala, hip-hop, and White Garment church influences.
Although both artists share a reputation for wild performances and eccentric fashion, Terry G maintains that his body of work speaks volumes about his place in Nigerian music history.
Interestingly, the two musicians have worked together before. Portable featured Terry G on Ogbafia, and they also joined forces on C Prince’s track Koba.
Despite their similarities, Terry G insists he belongs in a different league—one defined by timeless music, not controversy.
