Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has taken aim at Peter and Paul Okoye of the now disbanded P-Square duo, criticising their position on President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
During a recent sit-down with media personality Teju Babyface, which premiered on YouTube on Wednesday, Seyi Law accused the popular musicians of hypocrisy for distancing themselves from Tinubu despite once backing former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He argued that many entertainers in the industry only turned against Tinubu because he wasn’t former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, suggesting tribal bias may have influenced their rejection of the current president.
“When these people talk, I just laugh,” Seyi Law said. “Because if APC had fielded Osinbajo, they would still have used Buhari’s image to discredit him. Is Osinbajo not also Yoruba? Let’s stop the hypocrisy. You all know you’d have still used Buhari’s legacy against him.”
The comedian, a vocal supporter of Tinubu during the 2023 general elections, also addressed the criticism he faced for endorsing the president. He accused some entertainers of being inconsistent with their political alliances.
“These same people criticising the APC today once celebrated on stage during Buhari’s inauguration,” he said. “Now, they show up waving symbols of other parties like the umbrella or the cock. But let’s not pretend—they’re not saints either.”
He continued, “They performed for Buhari. Now that it’s Tinubu, suddenly he’s the enemy. ‘E no easy ee ooooo. To sing and to dey dance and the people dey rejoice eee’, they did all that for Buhari.”
For context, the Okoye brothers had performed their hit song ‘E No Easy’ at Buhari’s 2015 inauguration. However, during the 2023 elections, they publicly supported Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and performed at his campaign events.
