Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Omoni Oboli, has called out television stations in Ghana over what she described as blatant copyright infringement involving her latest film.
In a strongly worded Instagram post, the filmmaker expressed her disappointment after discovering that her movie Twin Deception, which premiered on her YouTube channel on Friday, was broadcast by some Ghanaian TV stations that same day—without her consent.
While stating that she holds deep affection for her Ghanaian supporters, she described the unauthorised airing of her content as “shameful” and a “disgrace.” She revealed that she has been working quietly with relevant Ghanaian agencies to curb the issue, but said it now appears that some broadcasters still don’t understand that such actions constitute theft.
“I love my Ghanaian besties. Truly, Ghanaians are our cousins—we banter, but there’s love,” she wrote. “However, this habit of terrestrial TV stations airing Nigerian movies without permission is unacceptable. My film Twin Deception was uploaded to YouTube on Friday and was already on their screens the same day.”
Omoni Oboli didn’t stop there—she threatened to take the matter to Ghana’s President, stating that the situation has grown into a source of international embarrassment. She also reminded the public that using content without proper licensing is punishable by law and not a form of support.
The actress ended her statement by appealing for mutual respect and understanding, reaffirming her fondness for her Ghanaian audience while urging TV stations to do better.
