Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has broken his silence following a viral moment at the 17th Headies Awards, where his microphone was unexpectedly muted during his acceptance speech.
The event, which took place on April 27, 2025, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, saw the rapper clinch two awards, including the highly sought-after “Next Rated” title. However, the celebration took a controversial turn when his mic was silenced just as he began to speak about his Christian faith.
A clip capturing the incident circulated rapidly on social media, drawing public outrage and igniting broader conversations around freedom of religious expression and possible censorship within the entertainment space.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Tuesday, Odumodublvck addressed the incident head-on. In his post, he expressed a firm belief that his microphone was deliberately muted because he mentioned Jesus, adding that the outcome may have been different had he chosen to praise Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu instead.
He wrote:
“I WAS TALKING ABOUT JESUS AND THEY TRIED TO SHUT ME DOWN. I AM HUNDRED PERCENT SURE THAT IF I WAS TALKING ABOUT HIS EXCELLENCY GOVERNOR BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CUT OFF.”
Despite the interruption, the rapper clarified that he harbors no bitterness toward the award organizers and remains thankful that he was given the opportunity to continue his speech.
“I GENUINELY HAVE NO BAD BLOOD TOWARDS THE HEADIES, RATHER, I AM GRATEFUL THEY PUT MY MIC BACK ON TO SPREAD THE GOSPEL,” he added.
He concluded his message with a strong affirmation of his faith, writing:
“JESUS IS KING. HE IS BEFORE NOW AND FOREVER. INDUSTRY MACHINE.”
Though the moment on stage sparked debate, Odumodublvck’s response has emphasized his commitment to using his platform to speak boldly about his beliefs.
