Renowned Nigerian gospel artist, Bolaji Olarewaju, widely known as Big Bolaji, has passed away. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement released on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
According to the family, the singer died on Easter Saturday after a brief illness. Describing the loss as “profound,” the statement paid tribute to Bolaji as a devoted father, husband, brother, and a towering figure in both the gospel music scene and the Christian community. He was also an ordained pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bolaji Olarewaju, affectionately known as Big B,” the statement read. “He was a cherished father, husband, brother, and an esteemed figure in the church and the music industry.” The family said details of his burial rites would be made public in due course.
Big Bolaji recently celebrated his 50th birthday, marking a milestone in a career that spanned decades and impacted lives across Nigeria and beyond. His gospel journey began with the group J’apha, and he went on to build a solo career that made him a household name among gospel music lovers.
