A human rights group, The Critical Thinkers, has urged the coroner’s court to order a forensic review of phone records belonging to individuals close to late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, within the 48 hours leading up to his death.
In a statement released by its spokesperson, Toby Bart, and made available to PUNCH Metro on Sunday, the group raised concerns about inconsistencies and missing testimonies in the ongoing coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s passing.
Bart also called on the management of Curamed Hospital — the first medical facility the singer was allegedly taken to — to appear before the court and provide their version of events.
He highlighted a series of contradictions between the testimony of Dr Chigozie Iwuala of Perez Medicare Hospital and statements made by Mohbad’s partner, Wunmi Adebanjo, during a recent media appearance.
According to Bart, Dr Iwuala told the court that Mohbad was already dead upon arrival at Perez Medicare Hospital and claimed the singer had been dead for over three hours before being brought in. He also mentioned that water had been poured on Mohbad’s body, allegedly in an attempt to reduce the signs of death.
This directly contradicts Adebanjo’s recent claim during an interview on TVC’s Your View, where she said Mohbad died about 20 minutes after arriving at the hospital.
“At the most recent inquest sitting, the public expected both hospitals involved to testify,” Bart said. “However, only Dr Iwuala from Perez Medicare Hospital and the driver who transported Mohbad to his show in Ikorodu, Fiselis Esenbor, were present.
“This is concerning because the second hospital, Perez, clearly stated that Mohbad was brought in dead. According to the doctor, there is CCTV footage showing how he was rushed in. The doctor also said Mohbad’s body was doused with water when brought in at about 4:30 pm on September 12, 2023, and the hospital advised those who brought him to take the body to the morgue.”
The group also revealed that Esenbor, the driver, testified he was informed about Mohbad’s death around noon on that same day — a timeline that contradicts other claims surrounding the singer’s final moments.
“These contradictions raise serious questions about the true time and circumstances of Mohbad’s death,” Bart added.
The group has now called for the coroner’s court to compel a forensic investigation into the call logs and messages of everyone around the late singer within the critical 48-hour period.
They also urged Curamed Hospital to provide their account at the next hearing on April 25, 2025, insisting that the facility remains responsible for submitting any available documentation, CCTV footage, and medical reports — even though the doctor who attended to Mohbad is no longer with them.
