Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has sparked conversations online after issuing a bold message to his daughter, Valerie Uloaku, on her 25th birthday. Taking to Instagram, the legendary actor laid out firm expectations, stating that by the time she turns 27, she must either be married, pursuing a PhD, or ready to leave his house.
In the emotional birthday message, Kanayo congratulated Valerie and urged her to reflect on her life’s direction. He described her growth from “little Valerie” to “prospective Madam Uloaku,” but made it clear that the next two years must be decisive. “Before 2027, you are either walking down the aisle, going for your PhD or walking out of my house. Simpliciter,” he wrote.
The post, which quickly went viral, stirred mixed reactions. While some praised the actor’s candid approach to parenting and applauded his push for excellence and responsibility, others criticised the message as high-pressure and insensitive. Critics argued that such expectations should not be publicly imposed, especially on a young woman navigating her own path.
Kanayo also addressed their father-daughter dynamic, acknowledging Valerie’s complaints about his constant travels due to work. He responded by explaining that being a “good actor” means being in demand and always on the move, asking her to be patient and proud of his relevance.
Whether viewed as tough love or unnecessary pressure, Kanayo’s message has reignited discussions about Nigerian parenting styles, gender expectations, and the balance between ambition and personal freedom. Valerie has yet to publicly respond, but all eyes will be on her next move as the spotlight intensifies.
