Nollywood actor, Habeeb Alagbe, has opened up about the struggles he faced in the early days of his acting career, revealing that he was often rejected for movie roles due to his skinny body.
In a recent interview on Babaibe TV’s YouTube channel, the actor shared his emotional journey, detailing how his physical appearance became a stumbling block in the competitive film industry. According to him, some filmmakers would praise his acting skills but still deny him roles simply because of his body type.
“I started my film making career with English series on television. Sometimes when I get a script to work with, the actors and producers tell me I’m a good actor,” he said. “But then they’ll say I have a small body and I’m too skinny. Because of that, they won’t give me the role.”
The rejection, he noted, had a deep emotional impact on him. He admitted that there were times he broke down in tears, overwhelmed by frustration and helplessness.
“I cried so many times. I’m not God, who created me this way,” Alagbe said, as he recalled moments when he felt discouraged.
Despite the challenges, the actor has continued to push forward, building his career and proving that talent can’t be defined by physical appearance. His story reflects the wider issue of body shaming in the entertainment industry and the pressure on actors to conform to certain stereotypes.
Habeeb Alagbe’s experience is a reminder of the importance of embracing diversity in casting and appreciating talent for what it truly is the ability to breathe life into a role, regardless of size or shape.
