Popular food critic Opeyemi Famakin has shared his thoughts on Nigerian music superstar Davido’s recent list of favorite restaurants in Lagos, which included an unexpected pick Chicken Republic. Famakin, known for his candid and often unfiltered reviews, expressed both surprise and reluctant agreement upon seeing the fast-food chain’s name on the list.
In his reaction, Famakin remarked, "Chicken Republic? I mean, don’t get me wrong, I enjoy their rice and beans with that pepper sauce is it before pack? That combo is arguably unbeaten among fast food dishes in Nigeria." While Famakin admitted to enjoying certain items on the Chicken Republic menu, he was perplexed by its inclusion in a list that also featured more upscale dining spots like Cali’s, Zaza, Boho, The Angels, Sora, and Nook.
Famakin, who has built a reputation for critiquing food with a sharp eye, pointed out that Chicken Republic isn’t typically considered a top-tier restaurant. However, he quickly shifted his tone, acknowledging that the chain does have its merits. He reflected on his own evolving views on fast food, stating, “Technically, if you ask me to name the best fast food restaurant in Nigeria, I don’t have one. It used to be The Place… then Mega Chicken. But everyone falls off eventually.”
In the end, Famakin conceded that Davido may have a point, stating, "Actually, if I’m speaking honestly it’s Chicken Republic. Davido is not wrong."
Famakin’s candid commentary has sparked a lively debate among food lovers on social media, with many agreeing and others questioning Davido's unusual choice.
