Aisha Achimugu, CEO and Managing Director of Felak Concept Group, has been taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) upon her arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Achimugu was apprehended early Tuesday morning, around 5 a.m., after flying in from London. Her lawyer, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, confirmed the arrest in a statement shared with TheCable, adding that his client has begun a hunger strike in protest.
“She arrived voluntarily and was arrested by the EFCC. She has immediately gone on hunger strike,” Ojukwu said. Drawing parallels with prominent political figures, he added, “Like Nelson Mandela of South Africa and Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar, she is a prisoner of conscience. This phase will surely pass. Nigeria’s rule of law is at the precipice.”
The arrest is reportedly connected to an EFCC investigation involving alleged money laundering and criminal conspiracy.
Earlier court filings revealed that Achimugu had intended to honour the EFCC’s invitation. Her lawyer had informed the Federal High Court in Abuja of her travel plans and her commitment to appear before the commission on April 29, 2025.
Justice Inyang Ekwo had previously ordered Achimugu to report to the EFCC on that date and to return to court on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, for the continuation of the case.
