Nigerian singer and internet personality Speed Darlington has stirred reactions online following claims that his opponent, Portable, used juju during their much-publicised celebrity boxing match.
In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, the outspoken artist alleged that his shoulder dislocated during the bout, despite feeling physically fit and not exhausted.
“E pain me, I no no Wetin happen whether na juju wey Portable carry come, I never tire, my shoulder just dislocated. I felt it was because I was swinging wide,” he said.
According to Speed Darlington, the strange nature of the injury suggested supernatural involvement. He revealed that medical personnel on standby quickly treated the dislocation, but he was advised not to continue fighting to avoid the risk of surgery.
“The ambulance on ground fixed my dislocated shoulder but I was told not to continue because it might lead to surgery. The painful thing now is the money given to Portable, he’ll go now and be lavishing the money. It’s painful I’ll have done my own Juju,” he added.
His outburst followed his defeat to Portable, who was declared winner by technical knockout during the much-anticipated celebrity fight tagged Chaos in the Rings. The bout, held at the Balmoral Centre in Lagos, had generated buzz since the fighters nearly came to blows at their Thursday weigh-in.
Shortly after the match, footage surfaced online showing Speed Darlington’s arm being treated and wrapped in bandages, lending some credibility to his injury claim but doing little to convince critics of the juju allegation.
Social media users have since reacted to his claims, with many mocking the singer while others expressed concern over the regulation of such high-profile entertainment matches.
