Nigerian reality TV star and DJ, Tolani Baj, has stirred up conversations online with her blunt take on the current state of Nigerian music.
Speaking candidly, Tolani Baj expressed frustration, stating that some Nigerian artistes don't know when to evolve, retire, or transition into business. She emphasized that there’s no shame in stepping away from music when the creativity fades, adding that continuously dropping subpar tracks only damages an artiste’s brand and legacy.
"Most Nigerian artistes don't know when to evolve or completely transition into business. If you're out of what to sing, go start a business. Stop dropping nonsense music to water down your brand and legacy. Learn from Olamide and Don Jazzy," Tolani Baj said.
Without directly mentioning names, she hinted that several artistes need to reassess their musical careers. Her comments gained even more attention after she revealed her disappointment with Davido’s "5IVE" album, saying it had "no replay value."
Tolani Baj’s comments have sparked a larger debate among fans and industry insiders about longevity, reinvention, and quality control in the Nigerian music industry.
Is it time for some artistes to hang it up? The conversation is just getting started.
