Nigerian social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has criticised Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus over her recent remarks backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Eniola Badmus had earlier reaffirmed her loyalty to Tinubu’s administration, a stance that sparked backlash from many Nigerians on social media.
It should be noted that the actress has faced heavy criticism for publicly supporting Tinubu both before and after the presidential election. Some critics have alleged that her support is driven by personal benefits, pointing to her appointment as a special adviser to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
Meanwhile, amid growing frustration among Nigerians, many have launched a 30-day online rant challenge to voice their grievances and demand change. Despite the widespread dissatisfaction, Badmus took to social media to restate her support for Tinubu’s government.
Sharing a post on her official Instagram page, the actress stood firm in her decision, stating that she remains loyal to Tinubu regardless of the criticisms.
Reacting to the controversy, VDM, in a video shared on Friday, argued that celebrities should not have the power to influence people’s political choices.
He stated that Nigerians make themselves vulnerable to deception when they allow celebrities to shape their views on national matters. According to him, many public figures who endorse politicians do so for personal gain, whether financial or for clout.
Captioning his post, he wrote:
“Eniola Badmus, other celebrities, and the foolish Nigerians enabling them. Until you know who you are, you will continue being sheep to the wrong shepherd.”
