Former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili has come out in strong support of Ushie Rita Uguamaye, a courageous corps member who criticized President Tinubu over the country's alarming state. Ezekwesili praised Raye, Uguamaye's nickname, for her boldness in speaking out, saying she's "schooling Nigerians on Democracy 101".
Raye had called President Tinubu "terrible" due to the economic hardships faced by Nigerians, sparking both criticism and widespread support. Ezekwesili defended Raye's comments, stating that demanding accountability from public leaders is a constitutional right and duty of every citizen. She emphasized that Raye's feedback was evidence-based and articulated in a manner to achieve maximum and effective delivery of her message to the President.
Other notable figures, including ex-presidential candidates Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, have also shown support for Raye. Omoyele Sowore and three lawyers accompanied her to the LGI's office, where she was invited to defend her comments. This display of solidarity underscores the growing concern among Nigerians about the country's economic woes and the need for accountability from those in power.
Ezekwesili's endorsement of Raye's actions highlights the importance of citizen engagement and participation in democratic processes. As she aptly put it, "We all better learn" from Raye's courageous example. With more Nigerians speaking out against injustice and demanding accountability, there is hope for a better future for the country.
