Owerri, Imo State, is a city on edge as a heartbreaking tragedy has ignited a firestorm of fury!

A 13-year-old JSS 1 student from Urban Secondary School was allegedly gunned down in cold blood on Monday, March 17, 2025, after hopping a fence to retrieve a stray football during a school game.

The shooter? None other than Barr. Donatus, the ruthless proprietor of Par Excellence School, who reportedly ignored the boy’s desperate pleas for mercy and blasted him with a pump-action shotgun—hitting him in the leg and buttocks.

Despite a frantic rush to Specialist Hospital Umuguma, the teen succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, March 20, leaving a community in mourning and a nation in shock!

Eyewitnesses say the boy was just enjoying a sports break when the ball sailed into Donatus’ compound, sharing a fence with Urban Secondary. “He climbed up, begging not to be hurt, but that man shot him twice—like he was nothing!” one student sobbed to a print media.

The aftermath? Pure chaos! Enraged schoolmates stormed Par Excellence School, smashing windows and torching property in a raw cry for justice, as viral X posts captured the destruction: “They’re burning it down—justice for our brother!” The Imo State Police nabbed Donatus on March 18, but for many, it’s too little, too late.

Other media sources reports the boy’s guardian, 70-year-old Jonathan Odikanwa, wept as his ward—raised as his own for eight years—fought for life in surgery, only to lose the battle. “He was just a child chasing a ball,” Odikanwa mourned.

Now, with the hashtag #JusticeForPaul trending, Nigerians are demanding answers: Why did a school owner turn a playground mishap into a murder scene? Was this rage, racism, or something darker? As the investigation unfolds, Owerri’s streets burn with grief and fury—this is one tragedy that won’t be silenced!

The man has been arrested and will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
