Bianca Ojukwu, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, has shared a personal story about how her father, Christian Chukwuma Onoh, rejected her after she participated in a beauty pageant.

Bianca won the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria competition in 1988 and went on to win other pageants, including Miss Africa 1989. However, her father, a former governor of old Anambra State, was not pleased with her decision to participate in the pageant, and she was rendered homeless for a month.

Bianca spoke about this experience at the Nigerian Women's Day on the sidelines of the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

She emphasized the importance of education in every woman's life, sharing how she had to balance her pageant career with her law studies at the University of Nigeria. Bianca encouraged young women to prioritize education, highlighting its transformative power.

Bianca's story has sparked a range of reactions, with some praising her resilience and others criticizing her for sharing personal family matters publicly.

Nevertheless, her message about the value of education resonates with many, particularly young women who face similar challenges in pursuing their goals.

By sharing her story, Bianca aims to inspire and empower women to make informed choices about their lives and careers. Her commitment to women's empowerment and education serves as a testament to her dedication to creating positive change in Nigeria and beyond.
