Jude Okoye, the former manager of Nigerian music group P-Square, has been granted N50 million bail by an Ikeja Special Offences Court. Okoye, who is the elder brother of Peter and Paul Okoye, is facing trial alongside his company, Northside Music Ltd., on a four-count charge of stealing $1 million and £34,537. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed the charges against him.
Justice Rahman Oshodi granted Okoye bail after considering the evidence and oral submissions presented by the parties. The judge stated that the court has the discretion to grant bail in cases not punishable by death, as outlined in Section 115 (2) of the ACJL.
The bail conditions require Okoye to provide two sureties, who must be gainfully employed and provide evidence of three years' tax payments to the Lagos State Government. Okoye must also submit his dual citizenship documents to the chief registrar of the court. Additionally, the EFCC has been directed to notify the Immigration office to withhold Okoye's international passport pending the determination of the case.
Okoye's trial has generated significant interest in the Nigerian entertainment industry due to his high-profile connections as the former manager of P-Square. The case is ongoing, with the next hearing scheduled for May 16 and 23, 2025.
